Blanketflower

Natural History

The Blanketflower is a member of the Sunflower Family. It grows to 2 feet in height and has green, oblong leaves to 3 inches in length. The plant typically grows along roads and in fields and pine forests at at elevations between 3500 - 5500 feet.
 

Blanketflower is also known as Firewheel, Indian blanket and gaillardia.

Blanketflower typically blooms between April - September and produces a dramatic 3 inch diameter sunflower-like bloom, in which each of the 3 lobed petals are reddish purple with bright yellow tips.
