Summary: |
A short slot canyon in the
Entrada Sandstone with some fairly challenging
climbs located just off of Highway 89 west of
the town of Page. A rope may be required to
complete the canyon (100' will be more than
enough). When the author was here, webbing
and/or rope was fixed at each of the drops. |
Directions: |
From Page, drive west on
Highway 89 across the bridge over the Colorado
River. Zero your odometer and drive 10.3 miles
to between Utah mileposts 3-4 and turn left
(south) onto an unmarked dirt road. Park
anywhere. |

Hike Description: |
From the parking spot, walk
south along the dirt road through a gate. The
canyon will be right in front of you. Find a way
down into the canyon and turn right to hike
underneath the highway. The canyon quickly
deepens and forms some nice narrows, which are
unfortunately spoiled somewhat by the profusion
of garbage that has washed down from the road.
Continuing down canyon you will be faced with
3-4 moderately challenging downclimbs of 10-20
feet that may require the use of a rope for a
handline. The downclimbs are followed by a drop
of about 45 feet from two pitons and two bolts
(a bit of an overkill) located on canyon left.
There was a rats nest of webbing and rapid links
at this drop when I passed through. Below the
drop, the canyon soon opens. Hike down canyon
until the drainage widens then route find left
or right (left is easier) to rim walk above the
canyon back to your car. |
