Monkshood

Natural History

Monkshood is a member of the Buttercup Family. It grows to 7 feet in height (though is more typically less than 4 feet tall) and has dark green jagged leaves to 8 inches in width. The plant typically grows along streams and in moist forests at elevations between 5000-9500 feet.

Monkshood is very poisonous to livestock and humans if eaten.

Monkshood typically blooms between June - September and produces blue-purple flowers with upper petals that form a hood to 1.25 inches in length.
