For those with a sense of adventure, there are many wild and remote areas to explore in the desert southwest. While it is hardly likely that you will be the first person to ever set foot on a particular spot, the sense that you might be the first, or at least one of only a
hand full, lends a sense of adventure to your travels.
I will list some of the hikes I have
discovered in this section, however, no
details of the location will be provided.
Why not provide the location of these hikes? |
1. |
From an environmental perspective, some areas are sensitive and could be degraded by high levels of traffic. |
2. |
Some hikes are technical and may be dangerous if hiker lacks the proper
skills (this is particularly true in
canyons). An ill prepared hiker may also be more inclined to add artificial protection such as bolts or pitons (something the author avoids). |
3. |
I want these places for myself. As you may be able to tell if you've read some of my hike descriptions, I am not fond of crowds, particularly in a wilderness setting. Besides, I did the work to locate them, if you're motivated you can do the same. |

|
Then
why list these hikes at all? |
1. |
Entertainment, some may find the trip reports interesting. |
2. |
Knowing that there are interesting places that are not listed in the guidebooks is good motivation to go out and explore for yourself. Go see what real wilderness is like and you'll begin to understand how much has been lost. |
3. |
To make you
jealous
. |
Don't bother writing me for
additional information on these trips, my lips are sealed. Though I may be willing to
barter if you've found some great locations
that you think I'd be interested in.
